The Armada Crew
Richard & James Shelmerdine
Armada Sails are specialists in Yacht, Motorboat and Dinghy Canvas Covers and we are New Sails Distributors for Hyde Sails for the South West region. We re branded to our new name in June 2013 as formally we were known as Slik Cut of Mount Batten, Plymouth. We are in a great location as it has such easy, quick access by road and by sea. Armada Sails is a local family business and is owned and run by the Shelmerdine family. Richard and James have been sailing since knee high to a grass hopper and both originally learnt to sail with The Island Cruising Club from Egremont, the old Mersey Ferry based in Salcombe. Richard’s mother Judy Shelmerdine, who lives in Hope Cove, Nr Salcombe was one of the founder members of The Island Cruising Club. Richard is regularly seen before the mast flying Spinnakers in various Yacht Club races. Dinghy racing and teaching is James’ forte. He recently graduated to Dinghy Senior Instructor matching his windsurfing qualifications. When Richard and James can be dragged off the water they can be found working hard sitting at the industrial sailmaker sewing machines at Armada Sails. They offer new Sails and New Canvas for both Dinghies and Yachts and a full repair and valeting service. Following a Laundry valeting service by Tip Top Sail Laundry of Southampton they can stitch new Sail U/V Sacrificial Strips and restitch your sail covers and sprayhoods as required. Armada Sails pride themselves on friendly advice and knowledgeable service. We are looking forward to speaking to you soon. We are here to help.
